2021 Pickleball Season

This action packed sport combines elements of badminton, tennis and ping-pong. Players will use solid paddles and a wiffle-like ball, while playing on a badminton-sized court. It is a low impact, high energy sport and the rules are very easy to learn.

A CKE Membership and Court Access Fee are required to access the Courts.  CKE Courts are for the enjoyment of our residents but we will allow a limited number of non-residents to purchase access. See CKE Courts Access. 

Please note:  If you have pickleball lessons or adult tennis lessons,  you are not required to purchase the Court Access fee

Pickleball LessonsAugust 17 – September 16, 2021

A new round of Pickleball lessons will be starting mid-August. The lessons will be taught by Kevin Doucet of Pickleball Connect. Kevin is IPTPA Level 2 certified and a terrific instructor. If you’re currently taking lessons with Kevin, you can sign up for the next session and seamlessly continue to build your skills. The lessons will be based on participants’ needs.

The package of five 1.5 hour lessons is $149. Lessons will be capped at 10 participants.

Outdoor Drop-In Pickleball
Recreational outdoor Drop-In pickleball will run Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday mornings from 9:00 – 11:00 am and Wednesday evenings from 7:00 – 9:00 pm.

To participate a CKE Membership (or Associate Membership) is required and either a) payment of the Court Access Fee or b) the purchase of Pickleball Lessons or Adult Tennis Lessons.

2021 Tennis Season

SUMMER SESSIONS

JULY DATES (July 5th to 28th) – 8 sessions

AUGUST DATES (August 4th to 30th) – 8 sessions

Mondays and Wednesdays (*no make up sessions offered in the event of inclement weather)

  • Little kids (6-9)   3:30pm to 4:30pm
  • Big kids (10+)    4:30pm to 5:30pm
  • Beginner adult   6:00pm to 7:00pm
  • Intermediate adult+  7:00pm to 8:00pm

Pricing:

  • Group lessons: Kids $80 for July or August session
  • Group lessons: Adults $100 for July or August session
  • Private lessons: $50/hr
  • Semi-private same household $60/hr (2-6 people)
  • Semi-private different households $70/hr (2-6 people)
  • SUMMER SPECIAL! 10 lessons for $150! Drop in to any 10 scheduled lessons in July or August.  This pass can be shared with members of your household.

  • Individual adult $40
  • Household $75

CKE Community Garden

The CKE Community Garden is a wonderful asset to the Community, providing rich, diverse green space next to the Community Hall. The CKE Community Garden rents out half beds (4’ x 4’) to members of the community for $35 per year + a current community membership. Fees charged go back into the garden to be used for supplies, plants, and hosting educational events. If you are interested in renting a plot for spring 2022, or just want to get involved, please send a note to the Sonja Johnson at sonja_johnson20@hotmail.com.

City of Calgary – All Wheels Skatepark

The CKE Skatespot offers a safe and active social space for people of all ages to connect with others, exercise in, and practice their skill! Obstacles include a quarter pipe, curved ledge, ledge/manny pad with wedge, flatbar with landscape flat gap, bank, and a flat ledge.

To help keep the park safe and clean, a locked supply box equipped with cleaning and maintenance supplies is located at the park. This initiative relies on “key holders” from the skate community to help keep the park clean and free of debris. If you are interested in being a key holder, please contact Calgary Association of Skateboarding Enthusiasts (CASE) – chair@calgaryskateboarding.com.

This park is owned and operated by The City of Calgary. Please contact the City of Calgary at 3-1-1 with any issues, concerns, or questions.

CKE Community Ice Rinks

Let’s go for a Skate! During regular winters there are four ice rinks safely maintained in CKE!

  1. Kelvin Grove (x2) – 73rd Avenue, next to the CKE Community Centre
  2. Eagle Ridge – Eagle Ridge Place
  3. Chinook Park – Colleen Crescent

Hours: Sunrise – 9pm or when the lights go out each evening

Rules & Expectations:

  • Share the space
  • Be mindful of others
  • Be inclusive to those that want to participate
  • No slap shots
  • Play fair and have fun

Each playground offers safe and accessible fun with great equipment for kids of all ages. All playgrounds have surrounding green space making them popular hubs in our walk-able community. Whether it’s your destination or an impromptu break, stop by for some activity and you’ll likely make some new friends while you’re there.
